Ever had products or services sold to you and thought you could do well doing the same? Then there is no time like the present to consider opportunities in sales and marketing

As you go about your holiday shopping (or buy anything in general), you’re likely considering several products and services over others. Whether you purchase or not, chances are, someone in the sales and marketing industry sold you your choices or at least put those products, services, and their respective brands on your radar.

Traditionally, sales and marketing operate separately, with the latter typically responsible for product design, identifying demographics, designing promotions, advertising and enabling the sales team with tested marketing strategies. After marketing is when sales take over, where if the latter is successful, then the former is similarly successful, and if otherwise, then they’d have to reconsider the marketing plan and make it more effective for sale.

While most businesses still follow this “marketing then sales” model, there are others–mostly small and medium-sized enterprises– who have merged the two functions into one. While this is done to reduce overhead, it also has other distinct advantages, the most notable of which are career opportunities for creative-thinking sales professionals with skills in both sales and marketing and are ready to possibly take on dual roles.

If you are among the professionals considering sales and marketing as a next career step, the following are some opportunities you may want to consider to give yourself the gift of a new job for next year.

Real Estate Agent

It is believed that real estate is one the most secure and most lucrative industries to both work and be invested in. Indeed, with properties all but ensured to continue appreciating in value, as well as continue to needed and used by residents, businesses, and organizations alike, making a living as a Real Estate professional won’t go out of style anytime soon.

While working as a Real Estate Agent requires a license, it is well worth earning as there are a number of notable real estate developers that one can work for. Another opportunity available to licensed agents is to work as an independent or freelance agent, finding and selling properties on behalf of clients, either in a part-time or full-time capacity.

Public Relations (PR) Associate

It’s called the ‘sales and marketing’ industry for many reasons, one of which is that it’s not only products and/services which companies sell, but also their overall brand image. Consumers, now more than ever, are more conscious of who they buy from, making it important that brands are always able to put their best foot forward.

This in effect makes Public Relations roles important, not only in sales and marketing teams, but in companies overall. Communications is the core skill of a Public Relations Associate, as they are often tasked to maintain the positive public image of their company, not only with the media, but more importantly its clients, investors, and stakeholders.

PR and Marketing Manager

While some companies have PR Associates, others have PR and Marketing Managers– or professionals tasked with not only the planning and budgeting for PR events, programs, and initiatives but also the development of marketing communications plans including strategy, goals, budget, and tactics.

This is one of many dual-roles that has emerged in the sales and marketing industry and serves as a good opportunity for professionals with both PR and marketing skills– and the related digital know-how– to establish in known, but still emerging, companies. These include the likes of Uniqlo and Lazada, among others.

Brand Manager

Akin to a Public Relations Manager is a Brand Manager, with the key difference being the latter is focused on presenting the company as a brand to consumers more than with the media and the general public.

This means ensuring commanding its brand integrity, and ensuring that buyers are purchasing products and services from a provider that is ethical, reliable, and is customer-centric, among others. Granted, some companies have Brand Managers and PR Managers as one and the same, as their responsibilities have similarities.

Sales Manager/Head

If it isn’t evident by now, sales is a significant endeavor, that in most companies, it has to be done constantly to help ensure continued revenue and operations. Along with meeting sales targets, there is also the need to identify opportunities to maintain and expand market and business opportunities, as well as implement account retention and account development programs.

These are responsibilities often reserved for Sales Managers or Sales Head, who with their extensive experience and expertise in selling, can be relied upon to not only pitch products and services but analyze the current market and make decisions that can will help the overall business move forward.

Customer Advisor

A key aspect of successful sales and marketing is the ability to be able to make recommendations to buyers and essentially tailor-fit a product or service to meet a particular need or want that they have. This makes front-liners like Customer Advisors key in the industry, as their product knowledge combined with their being understanding, personable, and empathetic is what helps move the products or services.

Companies always have a need for service-oriented Customer Advisors to not only make sales and generate revenue but more importantly, champion the brand and its mission and advocacies, and build relationships with customers so that they not only know of what the company offers but also have a pleasant experience when acquiring any of these.

Area Sales Executive

Of course, sales and marketing do not only occur in-store, online, or over the phone. Some businesses require customers to be approached, visited, or met with— happening repeatedly as they are not only sold to, but are oriented on the product or service they acquired, and are checked on to ensure they are satisfied and got their money’s worth.

With that, roles such as Area Sales Executive are ideal for those who have a knack for sales and marketing, but also enjoy being constantly on the move or on the road, and are not too keen on being inside the office or storefront for the entire day.
