Job Description

The Safety Engineer will be assisting in the effective and efficient implementation of safety rules and regulations in the project area. The position is responsible for ensuring that the project complies with the national, local and community laws pertaining to safety and health.

  • Coordinates and conducts work area assessment, surveys, and program evaluations to determine the presence of hazardous conditions.
  • Analyzes hazardous conditions and assigns risk assessment codes for use by departments to prioritize and budget corrective actions.
  • Collects, analyzes and maintains data essential for effective safety and environmental programs.
  • Evaluates hazardous conditions and recommends engineering controls, administrative controls, and/or personal protective equipment.
  • Ensures that all the construction safety rules and regulations are being observed.
  • Leads safety projects and manages risk execution using project management skills.
  • Develops methods for anticipating and predicting hazards, unsafe acts and root causes of safety incidents from experience, historical data, incident investigations and other information sources.
  • Participates in planning, design, development and implementation of systems or programs involving hazard controls for the safety system to maximize its effectiveness.
  • Establishes and implements techniques, which involve cost, cost-benefit analysis, work sampling, loss rate and similar methodologies, for periodic and systematic evaluation of the safety system and hazard control program effectiveness. Assists in developing methods to evaluate the costs and effectiveness of hazard controls and safety system programs.
  • Provides the results of evaluation assessments including recommended adjustments and changes to safety system policies or hazard control programs.
  • Conducts safety lectures/training to contractors (construction projects and subcontracted works) regarding hazards to which they are exposed and conducts familiarization of the work environment.
  • Assists departments with specific training needs by locating and scheduling outside training activities.
  • Administering the environmental management system, the waste management contract, and coordinating hazardous and universal waste management activities.
  • Works with administration of workers’ compensation programs to determine areas for increased training and emphasis on accident prevention.
  • Prepares and monitors safety budget requirements and expenditures.
  • Conducts periodic inspections at job sites to assist managers and supervisors in environmental, health, and safety compliance.
  • Ensures technical integrity forms the basis of the company's health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Reviews, compiles analyzes and interprets data from accident and loss event reports and other sources regarding injuries, property damage, or public impacts to Identify causes, trends and relationships and initiate investigations.
  • Proposes new safety policies, procedures, codes and standards which can be used to integrate safety performance into the goals as well as the monitoring, assessment of their effectiveness in changing safety performance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Holder in Engineering (ME/IE/CE)
  • Preferably a Licensed Engineer
  • Must have completed the 40-hour Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training Course as prescribed by the Bureau of Working Conditions
  • Preferably an OSH Practioner (accredited by the Bureau of Working Conditions – DOLE)
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in OSH
  • 2 vacant positions available in Kibungan, Benguet
