Job Description

  • Clearly understand internal instructions regarding a customer’s shipment requirements and handle complex shipments.
  • Find and hire motor carriers, and other freight transportation providers, with capabilities to ensure shipment parameters and customer satisfaction are met or exceeded.
  • Efficiently leverage existing carrier relationships and on-board new carriers while securing solid commitments on tough new lanes and seizing new load/lane opportunities.
  • Confidence in carrier selection process to ensure carrier has been fully briefed and properly vetted to be successful with a shipment or series of shipments.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with carriers and operational understandings, helping match carrier preferred lanes with freight, and work with carriers as determined by the company.
  • Continually source new carriers, developing the same relationships and understandings.
  • Continually collaborate with internal colleagues, teammates, and any other personnel necessary to help secure new business.
  • Cover, track and trace all booked freight, support colleagues, and maintain excellent customer service.
  • Manage customers independently and work closely with the Sales Team in the development of new opportunities.
  • Support and help manage designated customers and be responsible for customer satisfaction.
  • Cross-train to participate in ALL accounts, across all teams.
  • Be aware of, review, know where to find, and work in accordance with, company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate pricing proficiency, resourcefulness, and creativity, relating to:
    • Pricing customer freight and estimating carrier freight costs.
    • Negotiating pricing with carriers.
    • Supporting and educating SRs and AMs in pricing quotes, market dynamics, and negotiating with Customers.
  • Share in rotation of after-hours on-call duties.
  • Meet billing speed and accuracy goals determined by company.
  • Every customer request, compliment, feedback, complaint or communication of any kind, is seen as an opportunity. Don’t look to the transaction or the issue, look past it, and make it an opportunity.
  • Details and nuances are important, documented, and communicated effectively both within and outside of the organization.
  • You are persuasive and a good negotiator. For example, many carriers will tell you they don’t have an available truck when they really do. You have to sell yourself and sell your opportunity to get the truck. Be fluent and regularly re-read Socratic Selling.
  • Understand how the transportation business works, and make sure you remain a student, every day.
  • Networking is an essential part of this business and for that you need to have effective communication skills:
    • Prepare meetings and agendas with carriers.
    • Volunteer to be on committees; to work on projects; to help others; to help your manager.
  • Apply data analytics, critical thinking, and problem solving when facing roadblock or challenges. Present finding and solution possibilities when seeking management involvement.
  • Understand how relationships, carrier and customer need to be developed and cared for to ensure sustainability.
  • Approachable, collaborative, and reliable.
  • Sense of urgency in order to successfully complete tasks at hand.
  • Be ready and open to making mistakes and recognizing areas for improvement. Make decisions and communicate in a way that cares for the organization. Those who “think like an owner” and put the Company first are most often the people who have the brightest future.

Minimum Qualifications

  • College graduate of any course
  • With atleast 1-3 years working experience in related field
  • Position requires demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and diplomatically in writing, over the phone and face to face; meet deadlines, work under pressure; learn quickly, think logically; multi-task; support colleagues; be responsive to internal and external customers; and make prudent decisions and recommendations.
  • Can work with less supervision
  • Trustworthy
  • Experience in truckload brokerage preferred.
