Finance Manager | Permanent WFH  

Your days will be filled with:

1. Month-End Close and Quality Control

• Own the end-to-end close calendar across multiple entities, including task assignment, review, and sign-off.
• Ensure month-end readiness tasks are completed on time (bank reconciliations, intercompany checks, wages accrual preparation, invoice processing).
• Lead month-end execution, including supplier statements, bank and statement tie-outs, merchant fees and gateway receivables capture, key journals, and allocations.
• Own key schedules: accruals, prepayments, payroll, superannuation, gateways, intercompany, and inventory timing.
• Lead variance explanations: what changed, why it changed, and what decisions or actions are required.

2. Balance Sheet Integrity and Reconciliations

• Ensure all key balance sheet areas are reconciled, supported, reviewed, and filed each month.
• Payment gateways: ensure merchant fees and receivables are accurately recorded and gateway clearing accounts reconcile (Shopify, PayPal, Afterpay, Zip).
• Unearned revenue: run Cin7 reporting and post unfulfilled order provision journals monthly.
• AR clearing in Operations: keep AR clearing at zero by diagnosing integration edge cases and correcting invoices and credits.
• Intercompany: maintain intercompany balances and discrepancies at zero (using Mayday).

3. Commercial Controls and Value Protection

• Establish practical controls to prevent leakage and surprises, including:
• Vendor billing accuracy (freight providers, 3PLs, agencies, key suppliers)
• Pricing and discount discipline impacts
• Working capital drivers (inventory, payables, gateways)
• Maintain a visible exceptions list and decision log.

4. Treasury and Cash Operations

• Own daily cash visibility and funding: maintain sufficient balances, process transfers and FX top-ups, and prepare approvals for CFO sign-off (Airwallex, CBA, Amex)

5. Process Improvement, Systems Tuning, and AI Adoption

• Identify the top drivers of close friction and resolve them (process improvements, mapping, templates, upstream coding).
• Own and implement all SOPs, templates, and standard journals.
• Use AI to accelerate reconciliations, anomaly detection, first-draft variance commentary, and exception reporting, while maintaining rigorous validation standards.

6. People and Stakeholder Management

• Manage and coach the Accountant (PH) to improve capability and throughput.
• Partner with the FP&A Analyst to ensure clean actuals and consistent datasets.
• Communicate clearly with non-finance stakeholders and remove unnecessary bureaucracy.

7. Audit Readiness

• Maintain an audit readiness plan, clean working papers, and respond to audit requests efficiently.

Who we are looking for:

Non-Negotiable Qualifications (Must-Have)

• 2-3 years of proven accounting experience with end-to-end ownership of the month-end close.
• Strong hands-on month-end close + balance sheet reconciliation capability.
• Payment gateway reconciliation experience essential (incl. manual/EFT clearing accounts).
• Multi-entity accounting/reconciliation experience.
• eCommerce experience; Shopify + Xero
• Payroll exposure and experience supporting payroll processes.
• High documentation discipline and ability to implement audit-ready processes.
• Demonstrated AI usage and problem solving with accuracy control; can interrogate/validate AI output until it’s executable and correct.
• Clear direct and candid communicatio
• Advanced Xero (multi-entity) expertise.
• Solid understanding of inventory/COGS accounting and payroll.
• Australian accounting experience.
• Proficiency in Google Sheets and Excel (lookups, pivots, reconciliation formulas).

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)

• Employment Hero familiarity is highly desirable
• Inventory accounting in retail or eCommerce
• Exposure to inventory management systems (Cin7 Core is highly desirable)
• Treasury/bank account management
• Audit exposure
