Senior QA Lead Automation Engineer  

Role overview

We are looking for a senior quality assurance automation engineer / quality assurance lead to lead our quality engineering initiatives. you will help transition our testing practices from manual verification to a reliable automation framework integrated into our software delivery process.

The role focuses on automated testing, application quality, database performance, security, data protection, production monitoring, and manual testing.

Key responsibilities

Automated testing

Build and maintain automated end-to-end test suites using cypress and playwright.

Automate critical workflows including employee onboarding, document generation, electronic signatures, document uploads, visit verification, and timesheets.

Maintain component and unit tests using vitest and react testing library.

Identify gaps in test coverage and improve automated regression testing.

Backend and api testing

Write integration and unit tests using pytest and pytest-django for django applications.

Write automated tests using phpunit for laravel applications.

Implement openapi schema testing using drf-spectacular and swagger.

Test authentication, user permissions, api inputs, and security controls.

Help prevent breaking changes between backend services and frontend applications.

Continuous integration and quality gates

Integrate automated tests into gitlab pipelines.

Configure automated quality checks for staging and production branches.

Configure test environments using postgresql, mysql, mariadb, and redis.

Enforce code quality standards using eslint and prettier.

Performance and database testing

Identify and prevent n+1 database query problems.

Verify database query optimization in django and laravel.

Monitor background workers using celery and laravel horizon.

Test batch processing reliability and failed job recovery.

Security and data protection

Ensure testing processes follow applicable hipaa and data protection requirements.

Prevent protected health information and personally identifiable information from appearing in logs or test results.

Create anonymized test data using factory-boy and faker.

Verify that error responses do not expose stack traces, environment variables, or sensitive information.

Production monitoring

Monitor sentry and uptime kuma for application issues and regressions.

Investigate production issues and help identify root causes.

Convert production issues into automated regression tests.

Manual testing

Maintain the portal manual qa masterlist and regression test documentation.

Conduct smoke testing for major deployments and infrastructure changes.

Test third-party integrations such as google recaptcha, turnstile, and calendly.

Document testing procedures and release validation steps.

Requirements

Strong experience in quality assurance and test automation.

Hands-on experience with cypress and/or playwright.

Experience with backend and api testing.

Experience with pytest, pytest-django, and/or phpunit.

Familiarity with django, laravel, and rest apis.

Experience with gitlab pipelines or similar continuous integration systems.

Understanding of database testing and query optimization.

Familiarity with postgresql, mysql, mariadb, redis, and background job processing.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and collaborate with development teams.

Qualifications & Skills

Required Technical Skills

4+ years of experience in Quality Assurance / Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with strong automation expertise.

E2E & Frontend Testing: Deep hands-on experience with Cypress, Playwright, and Vitest / Jest in modern React / Next.js / TypeScript environments.

Backend Testing: Proficient in pytest (Python/Django) and/or PHPUnit (PHP/Laravel).

API Testing & Contracts: Strong experience testing RESTful APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, and schema validation.

CI/CD & Containers: Strong proficiency with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and docker compose environments.

Databases: Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB), SQL queries, and ORM query optimization (identifying N+1 issues).

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

Experience working with HIPAA-compliant healthcare systems or fintech/HRIS platforms.

Experience with visual regression testing tools (Percy, Playwright Visual Comparisons).

Familiarity with AWS infrastructure basics (ALB, SSM Parameter Store, ECR) and Cloudflare DNS routing.

Familiarity with queue architectures (Celery, Laravel Horizon, Redis).

Experience with monitoring and telemetry platforms (Sentry, Uptime Kuma).
